What was once a place of confinement is set to become a sanctuary of learning, creativity, and community. This isn’t just a new site—it’s the physical embodiment of everything GVL stands for.
From Gaol to Gateway

Our education model is built around our EDventurous Design Principles, which guide every decision and action at GVL:
- Real-world learning through GVL’s Unbounded model—with young people learning through doing, creating, and collaborating in the real world
- Artisan studios and maker spaces—low-cost studios in former cells for local creatives and youth mentorship
- A vibrant community café—run by and for young people, offering work experience and connection
- Cultural and community events—markets, exhibitions, story-sharing nights, and immersive education programs

Deep Respect and Regeneration
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people as the Traditional Owners of this land. We also acknowledge the gaol’s history as a site where Aboriginal people were unjustly imprisoned. Regeneration here means telling the whole story – past, present, and future – and walking forward with integrity, partnerships, and listening.
