UnBoundED is GVL’s groundbreaking, learner-led, guide-supported hybrid education model, designed for young people who seek a more immersive, flexible, and dynamic learning experience beyond the confines of a traditional classroom.

This is more than just an idea—we are building it into reality alongside the UnBoundED Community. We are currently in beta, co-creating and evolving this model with you—our learners, families, and community.

At UnBoundED, we believe that education should be an adventure—one that fosters independence, creativity, and real-world engagement. Our approach allows learners to step beyond static, site-based learning and into a world of hands-on exploration, where they take ownership of their education in meaningful and impactful ways.

Who is UnBoundED for?

This program is tailored for learners aged 12-16 who:

  • Thrive in experiential, real-world learning settings.
  • Are home-educated and seeking structured learning opportunities.
  • Are current GVL students looking to expand their experiences beyond the GVL campus.
  • Want greater autonomy in shaping their education.

How does it work?

Flexible Learning Pathways

  • 3-4 days a week: Offsite learning experiences including excursions, internships, and community-based projects.
  • 1 day a week: At-home online learning.
  • Optional on-site participation: Learners can engage with GVL’s community and facilities as needed.

A Mobile Learning Hub – The UnBoundED Bus

More than just transportation, the UnBoundED Bus will be co-created with young people to become fully-equipped mobile learning hub, featuring:

  • Laptops & digital learning tools
  • Safety equipment
  • Folding tables, chairs, and workspaces
  • A mobile kitchen with food preparation areas
  • Designated pick-up/drop-off locations within a 90-minute radius of GVL

A Collaborative Support Network

Learners take the lead in organizing, planning, and engaging in experiences. Guides provide mentorship, assist with logistics, and support academic progress. Families play an essential role in ensuring learners are prepared and engaged.

Real-World Learning Experiences

SOLE, which stands for Self-Organised Learning Environment, reflects UnboundED’s commitment to immersive, real-world education. These locations provide dynamic, hands-on experiences across a wide range

of disciplines, seamlessly integrating science and technology, sustainability, creative and design industries, agriculture, multicultural learning, physical education, music and the entertainment industry, community service, beach ecology, and night-time exploration. Through these diverse environments, young people are empowered to take ownership of their learning, blending applied literacy and numeracy learning with adventure, discovery, and skill-building in ways that make education truly engaging, relevant, and transformative.

Our SOLE EdVentures (Self-Oriented Learning Environments) empower learners to explore various industries and disciplines, including:

  • Social Impact – Volunteer projects, community service initiatives, leadership in social change.
  • Science & Technology – Planetarium visits, coding workshops, engineering challenges, hands-on experiments.
  • Sustainability – Urban farming, conservation projects, renewable energy exploration, environmental science.
  • Creative Industries – Art studios, music production, performing arts, digital media, design workshops.
  • Physical Education & Outdoor Adventure – Rock climbing, hiking, outdoor survival skills, orienteering.
  • Agriculture & Food Systems – Farm visits, sustainable agriculture, permaculture design, food production.
  • Multicultural Learning – Cultural festivals, language immersion, traditional crafts, global history explorations.
  • Music & Entertainment Industry – Studio recording, songwriting, event production, performance workshops.
  • Community Service & Leadership – Youth activism, public speaking, grassroots initiatives, advocacy training.
  • Beaches & Marine Ecology – Coastal conservation, snorkeling, marine biology studies, tide pool exploration.
